Feeling alone

Some people say it’s possible to be alone but not feel lonely. I think being alone can be great when you truly need alone time. But feeling alone is entirely different. You can be surrounded by everyone you care about, or perhaps be in a room full of people you know or don’t know, and still feel alone. To feel alone is an existential experience. It’s feeling like the universe is much too big, and you’re much too small. It’s feeling like you can’t really relate to people. It’s feeling like time is frozen but every day you wake up and a year has somehow passed by. To feel alone is to feel empty.
I don’t know what the cure is, but I know most of us have probably felt this way. And knowing that makes me feel slightly  less alone. It’s a paradoxically beautiful thing to know.
